Tips for bearing protection
A lot can go wrong with bearings, as we’re sure you’ve experienced at some point in your working life. With so many variables relying on this intrinsic accessory, it’s important to ensure bearing protection is at the forefront of your concerns. Doing so not only prevents things from going wrong but will ensure your machinery will have a long life.
Below you’ll find some basic information to ensure bearing protection remains possible.
It’s important that the housing and bearings remain clean prior to being joined – if they’re not it will only be a matter of time before you experience bearing failure. With this in mind, when you’re assembling the bearings you must ensure you:
- Clean your work station
- Wash your hands
- Maintain a dust-free assembly environment
- Use clean grease
- Clean the component parts
Having a surgical environment will cut down on potential exposure to elements that could cause bearing failure.
Protect Your Housing
Even though your bearing is nestled within housing, dust and wet can still get to the bearing via the shaft. This is why a reliable shaft seal is vital.
If your bearing is going to be used within potentially dusty conditions, a rotary shaft seal will work best. These require the shaft to run straight and it is important that the gaps between the two parts of the seal are kept free of contaminants. Ensuring this means they will never go wrong.
