Polypropylene Rod

Further Information about Polypropylene Rod

Polypropylene rod is an economical engineering plastic that has many uses within a varied range of industries. Despite its economical price it delivers a high performance which makes it good value for money.

Our manufacturers produce engineering plastics that are slightly oversize in either diameter and/or thickness for your benefit. This oversize tolerance, which is listed in the tables below, is provided to assist customers to produce very accurate items within the size shown and remove any minor surface imperfection.

Polypropylene Rod Tolerances:

Nominal Diameter Tolerance in mm
10 +0.1 to +0.6
12 +0.2 to +0.7
15 +0.2 to +0.8
20 +0.2 to +1
22 - 25 +0.2 to +1.1
30 +0.2 to +1.2
35 +0.2 to +1.3
40 +0.2 to +1.5
45 +0.3 to +1.7
50 - 55 +0.3 to +2
60 +0.3 to +2.3
65 - 70 +0.3 to +2.5
75 - 80 +0.4 to +3
90 +0.5 to +3.4
100 +0.6 to +3.8
110 +0.7 to +4.2
120 - 130 +0.8 to +4.6
140 +0.9 to +5.4
150 +1 to +5.8
160 - 180 +1.2 to +7.4
200 +1.3 to +8.5
225 - 250 +1.3 to +9
300 +1.3 to +10

Polypropylene Rod Grades:

Polypropylene rod is generally homopolymer grade which means that of the two grades, it is the most rigid.

Application for Polypropylene Rod:

  • Water industry and also chemical and acid industry due to particular attributes
  • In swimming pool environment
  • For prosthetic devices
  • Used inside valves and seals and also for tough impact resistant handles
  • Regularly used within the pharmaceutical environment and industry

Properties of Polypropylene Rod:

  • Polypropylene rod is very impact resistant and tough which makes it useful for components that are subject to repeated impact
  • It is very lightweight which helps in the production of components that are repeatedly being manually lifted
  • Even though Polypropylene rod is not typically a high temperature plastic, it is still resistant to temperature and can operate up to +100°C on a constant basis
  • This material is economical and can replace existing engineering plastics in certain applications to save you money
  • It has a high acid and chemical resistance, and easily out performs many other materials in this important area
  • Low moisture absorption help Polypropylene rod to have a long term component stability and also help with its bacterial resistance

Size Range:

Polypropylene rod is commonly available in sizes ranging from 8mm diameter up to 700mm diameter and with a very long range of graduated size options.

Fabrication:

Polypropylene rod is extremely difficult to bond with current adhesive and therefore the only reasonable option is to weld the material.

Summary:

Our Polypropylene rod is low weight and offers significant resistance to impact and chemical or acid attack. It has low moisture absorption and is suitable for food applications. Polypropylene rod offers good electrical insulation, resists cracking but is difficult to bond making welding necessary.
